How to Make Vinegar Candy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon corn syrup
  • 1 level teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water
  • 1/2 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Mix the butter, corn syrup, sugar, vinegar, and 1/2 cup of water together in a saucepan. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Heat up the mixture until it reaches 290°. Do not stir while heating.
  2. Take the 2 tablespoons of boiling water and mix them with the soda. Add this mixture plus the lemon juice to the saucepan. Cook for 2 additional minutes.
  3. Pour mixture onto a greased cookie sheet to cool. Pull candy into a long strip and cut into pieces.
