How to Make Salt Water Taffy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 5 tablespoons water
  • a pinch of cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Mix sugar and water together in a saucepan. Add butter and heat mixture to 290°. Do not stir.
  2. Add vanilla extract and cream of tartar.
  3. Pour mixture onto a greased surface (a pan or cookie sheet will suffice).
  4. Let cool enough so that it can be handled. Pull taffy until it becomes white, then cut into pieces. Wrap each piece in wax paper.
