How to Make Peanut Brittle

Ingredients

  • 4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 cups salted peanuts
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Stir together sugar, water and cream of tartar in a heavy saucepan. Cook over medium heat without stirring until sugar dissolves. Add peanuts. Allow mixture to reach 300 degrees F on a candy thermometer.
  2. Remove from heat. Add butter, baking soda and salt; stir until well blended. Pour mixture onto a greased baking sheet. Allow to cool; break into medium-size pieces.
