How to Make Molasses Candy
Ingredients
- 1 cup molasses
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1 cup boiling water
- 3 cups sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1 teaspoon rose extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
Instructions
- Add water and molasses to a saucepan. Heat mixture while stirring. Add sugar and vinegar. Once the mixture begins to boil, add cream of tartar. Continue boiling until the mixture is firm when tested in cold water. Add the butter and soda. Stir slowly and heat to 290°. Finally, add the rose extract.
- Pour mixture into a greased pan. Let cool until it can be handled comfortably.
- Pull candy until it is a pale yellow. Cut into sticks.
