How to Make Marshmallows

Ingredients

  • 1 envelope granulated gelatin
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Soak gelatin for 5 minutes in 1/2 cup of the water.
  2. While allowing the gelatin to soak, add sugar and the remaining water to a heavy saucepain. Cook until the mixture reaches 240 degrees F on a candy thermometer. Add soaked gelatin and let stand until almost cool.
  3. Add vanilla and salt. Beat mixture until it thickens. Pour into pans dusted with powdered sugar. Allow to thoroughly cool. Cut into 1-inch cubes and roll in powdered sugar.
